Développé étiré à la Barre is an advanced barre stretch combining a slow, controlled développé with assisted static stretching. At the barre, the dancer unfolds the leg through passé (retiré) into a full extension to the front, side, or back, reaching maximum height through muscular control. Once the leg reaches its limit, the dancer may gently grasp the ankle or foot with the hand and draw the leg closer to the body, holding the position for a passive stretch. This combination of active muscular control and passive static stretching progressively pushes the limits of leg extension and flexibility while maintaining proper alignment and the safety provided by the barre. It is an essential exercise for developing the extreme extensions seen in classical ballet.
