Little change of feet. Fifth position R foot front. Demi-plié and push from the floor, extending the toes and arching the feet in the air. On coming down, change the feet so that the L foot will be in the front. Land in the fifth position, first toes, then heels, and finish in demi-plié in the fifth position. For more advanced students there is another variation of petit changement. It is similar to the above but the feet do not leave the floor; the toes are touching the floor all the time as if the dancer were only rising on the toes. The movement is done very rapidly in a series without any pause or plié. This is an excellent exercise for the ankles and insteps and gives brilliancy and rapidity to the petite batterie.
