Préparation la Grenouille, commonly known as the frog stretch, is one of the most important floor exercises for developing turnout (en dehors) in ballet. The dancer lies face down on the floor with the knees bent and opened wide to the sides, the soles of the feet touching each other or the thighs and shins forming a 90-degree angle. The hips press downward toward the floor, assisted by body weight or gentle external pressure. This position deeply opens the hip sockets and stretches the inner thighs, groin, and deep hip rotators, directly training the turnout rotation that is essential for all classical ballet positions. It is a cornerstone exercise for hip mobility in ballet training.
