The fourth of the four main body positions, alongside croisé, effacé and écarté: an arabesque position taken diagonally facing a front corner, the shoulders square to the line of direction, the nearer arm extended forward and the corresponding leg extended to the fourth position back. Not to be confused with épaulement.
