Sudden spring or bound. A term of the French and Russian Schools. A springing jump from both feet usually performed traveling forward in either a croisé or effacé direction and landing on both feet. From demi-plié in the fifth position, spring into the air with well- crossed legs, extended knees and feet pointed. Land simultaneously on both feet in demi-plié in the fifth position with the same foot in the front that started the jump. In the Russian School, the body inclines forward before the jump and then forcefully bends back at the height of the jump so that the legs are behind.
